E-waste Management Policy

Cepheid India Pvt. Ltd. believes in providing quality service to our customers without negatively impacting the environment. We strive to improve the environmental performance of our products throughout their life cycle by adopting best-in-class E-waste management practices.

The Cepheid India recycling program reflects our E-waste management efforts to minimize the impact of our business on the environment.

What is E-waste?

As per the E-Waste (Management) Rules of 2016, which came into force on 1^st October 2016, E-Waste refers to the electrical and electronic equipment, whole or in part discarded as waste by the consumers, as well as rejects from manufacturing, refurbishment, and repair processes. E-waste contains substances that can have adverse effects on the environment as well as on human health.

Often, E-waste comprises toxic chemicals like lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), and Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs). If not disposed of in a scientific way, E-waste can have a detrimental impact on the environment and on human health.

General Scheme of Collection and Safe Disposal/ Recycling of Desktops/Laptops by Cepheid India:

• Customers reach out to Cepheid Technical Support by dialling the toll-free number: 1-800-420-9099 when laptops/desktops attached to diagnostic products reach their End of Life (EOL) or when part of the product is dysfunctional.

• Upon request for replacement of a dysfunctional part, or a part that needs disposal after EOL, Cepheid instructs their service provider (PISPL or DTDC) to collect the defective or EOL E-waste from the customer’s doorstep and replace the dysfunctional part with a new one, if needed.

• The dysfunctional part or the E-waste (laptop/desktop) is delivered to the Cepheid Service centre at Cepheid India Pvt. Ltd., 9th Floor, Tower B, Paras Twin Towers, Golf Course Road, Sector-54, Gurugram, Haryana-122002 through courier facilities by the service provider (PISPL or DTDC). 

• Post receipt of the dysfunctional part or the E-waste (desktop/laptop) at the Cepheid service centre, it is picked up by authorized E-waste dismantler M/s. Green Recycling Waste management (GRWM) and delivered to their warehouse J-983, RIICO Industrial Area Chopanki, Bhiwandi, Alwar (Rajasthan) – 301019 who further have an agreement with authorized E-Waste Recycler M/s Naturevolt Recyclers India Pvt Ltd (NRIPL) to pick the E-waste from GRWM and deliver to their premises situated at Plot no. 323, Part IV, Sector 24, Faridabad, Haryana in line with requirements mandated under E-waste (Management) Rules, 2016.

Steps for safe movement of E-waste by Cepheid:

• Cepheid developed GeneXpert^® systems that come with a laptop/desktop are sold or shipped to customers or retailers.

• When Cepheid products reach their EOL or part of the instrument is dysfunctional, customers reach out to Cepheid Technical Support by dialling in through the toll-free number 1-800-420-9099.

• On receiving a request for replacement of a dysfunctional part or disposal of E-waste, Cepheid instructs their service provider (PISPL or DTDC) to replace and collect the E-waste from the customer’s doorstep and replace the dysfunctional part with a new one, if needed.

• The dysfunctional part or the E-waste (laptop/desktop) collected is delivered to the Cepheid Service centre, 9th Floor, Tower B, Paras Twin Towers, Golf Course Road, Sector-54, Gurugram, Haryana-122002 through courier facilities by the service provider (PISPL or DTDC).
  Note: Cepheid Service provider will collect only laptops/desktops connected with the GeneXpert system as these are the only E-waste from the entire product.

• Post receipt of the dysfunctional part or the E-waste (desktop/laptop) at the Cepheid service centre,  it is picked up by authorized E-waste dismantler M/s.
